It expands our memory and our intellect using the modern tools of technology and networks.”īasically, it’s an easy system to save and organize every interesting and useful idea you read, watch, listen to, or come up with yourself. “Building a Second Brain is a methodology for saving and systematically reminding us of the ideas, inspirations, insights, and connections we’ve gained through our experience. If you haven’t read Building a Second Brain by Tiago Forte, I highly recommend it. All in all, OneNote has handwriting features almost as good as Goodnotes and is far more flexible and cross-platform. There are times when I want to write something down from my computer, and Goodnotes just isn’t capable of that. Your notes aren’t editable outside the Goodnotes app. I know that you can have Goodnotes sync to OneDrive, but that’s just a pdf backup. If you don’t allow Goodnotes to sync through iCloud, your notes aren’t accessible through the Goodnotes MacBook app. ![]() A small one-time payment to download Goodnotes isn’t an issue for me, but I refuse to pay a subscription. Goodnotes works through iCloud, and for it to be usable you need to pay a subscription fee to apple to increase your iCloud storage. The Goodnotes app on MacBook is just generally a nightmare, and there’s no Goodnotes web app. Goodnotes is an iPad app through and through, and just isn’t meant for typing notes. Firstly, OneNote is excellent for taking text-based notes and generally is very natural to use on a computer. ![]() The experience of taking handwritten notes on Goodnotes seems better than what OneNote has to offer, and the fact that Goodnotes puts your notes on individual pages means that you can export your notes as a pdf (something that OneNote just can’t do, more on this in part 3). I own Goodnotes, and I can confidently say that it’s an excellent app. For iPads specifically, the most popular note-taking app seems to be Goodnotes. More on this later.Ī lot of college students, myself included, take notes on a tablet like an iPad for classes. OneNote is completely free, which already beats the vast majority of high-quality note-taking apps out there. I have a traditional laptop so the only place im doing writing is on the ipad and the only place im doing DECENT organizing is on the laptop. This Reddit post comes to you in three parts:īut first, the obvious. CONS- its syncing takes forever!! You cant insert only the first 50 pages of a pdf or something, deleting a notebook require having to go up to a website. I love the clean highlighting and you can add space between things! Its supported in so many apps and connected to so much more but. ONE NOTE PROS- I love the organization more, it has the PC feel which i wanted, having one drive to import things and organize things is great! Im a PC laptop lover and hadnt tried one drive till now but I love putting things from a folder into one drive to have anywhere vs something like google drive. I was pulling in things to import from google drive but may just use one drive for that now. Side by side feature although small on the screen could really come in handy if i just dont have another screen that I can, for example read my textbook off of. PROS- i love the writing, the syncing is seamless, compared to onenote importing a large pdf is amazing (even though i still hate picking the pages). Its highlighting feature is crappy i like it more straightlined like pdf highlighting.having to select the individual pages of an imported book or file. Notability con- cant add a little space between pages or pdf pages. ![]() My main uses are writing notes on an IPad in class, having a textbook or other file to read while taking notes (when out of class) usually the text on my HP pavilion laptop and the notes on the IPad I imagine, but splitscreen on my ipad in a pinch (thank u notability). ![]()
